Frequently Asked Questions about Saint Mary's

Below are some frequently asked questions about attending St. Mary's School. If you have a question that isn't covered here, please contact the school at (269) 683 • 9191 and someone will be happy to answer it for you.

How many kids are in each classroom?

St. Mary's School has a very high teacher to student ratio. We average approximately 15 students per classroom. Our kindergarten class has both an instructor and an assistant to provide more individualized attention at this formative age.

Do you have bus service?

Yes, St. Mary's School bus service is provided by the Niles Community Schools.

Why do your students wear uniforms?

Our students wear uniforms to help them concentrate more intently on their education without the distractions of class and material competition. At this very impressionable age, we find uniforms put our students into a learning frame of mind and helps them focus their attention on the individual – rather than his or her clothes.

Are you accredited and are your teacher certified?

Yes. The State of Michigan Non-public School Accrediting Association accredits us. Our teachers are also certified by the State of Michigan.

How do you handle gifted children?

Special reading groups, math groups and science fair opportunities are in place to help gifted children achieve their full potential. But we also feel strongly that mainstreaming gifted children provides a positive influence on other students and can develop leadership skill that will last a lifetime for the gifted child.
